In conjunction once again with TAL Festival, we are pleased to present ex-SAS Commander and award-winning film director, Tom Petch.
Tom’s new book is ‘hot off the press’. The Untold Secret Origins of the SAS is his controversial, myth-busting radical new account of the creation of the SAS. In it he reveals how the unit actually came into existence and much more.
The SAS is one of the most iconic units in the British Army. Renowned for high-stakes operations and incredible skill, bravery and ruthlessness, the SAS and its “Who Dare Wins” motto has become something of a legend in British military culture, but how much do we really know about where it came from?
With a cast of characters including Ernest Hemingway, Evelyn Waugh and Randolph Churchill, dramatic accounts leap from the trenches of the Western front; high piracy in the deserts of North Africa, and many other apparently foolhardy missions.
You may have watched the excellent fictionalisation Rogue Heroes on the BBC however, this is the story of the SAS as you have never heard before told by a man who was part of it for 8 years, with access to records and reports previously unavailable.
Learn how the shock of defeat propelled an unlikely group of renegades into the frontline of the war, spotlighting the key figures who were instrumental in bringing the group to life but who have been largely forgotten from the official origin story.
Tom Petch served for eight years in the British Army, leading eventually to Troop Commander of 22 SAS. His military experience gives him a uniques perspective on recently declassified archives, operation reports, accounts and interviews of the original SAS and their commanders. He is now an award-winning film director and producer, whose debut film The Patrol, won the Raindance Film Festival.
He is also the great-great-grandson of Samuel Shepheard, who founded Shepheard’s Hotel Cairo, a key location within the book, where the SAS was born.
