The Ins & Outs, Ups & Downs and Nuts & Bolts of Humour Writing...workshop

Saturday 15th October               10am to 12noon           £20 per place - limited number

Humour appears deceptively easy,  encouraging readers to assume the words tumble effortlessly onto the page. Yet creating a humorous piece is just as challenging as writing a serious novel. This workshop will show the writer how to fabricate a funny idea and concoct a comical story by abandoning any modest choice of language and indulging in a full frontal use of exaggeration!

Sandra Smith is a local writer whose humorous features have been published in an eclectic range of magazines and newspapers.  Sandra runs courses and workshops and this is her 2nd appearance at the Festival. Sandra lives with her alpha male husband, teenage daughter and two ungrateful felines. When not writing she can be found roaming The Chilterns and ignoring housework.

Word For Word Poetry workshop

Sunday 16th October   10.30am to 12.30pm

£20 per place - limited number

Patrick Collins is a playwright and poet He has translated Moliere, adapted Shakespeare, is a life-long fan of Pinter and is a great friend of TAL Festival.

The session offers an informally-based exploration of some of the possibilities of writing imaginatively in    Free-Verse form. The dominant aim is enjoyment.

The approach combines working from a variety of stimuli, verbal and visual, and engaging with printed examples from a range of highly-acknowledged contemporary poets.  Previous experience of this field is by no means a necessity; the only requirements are a pen, a pad, and interest and excitement in the latent possibilities of words
